btw when is he starting up touring with him?

I do appreciate him and respect him and the fact that he's got a message board which he frequents and gives some good and true experienced advice.

I find it curious too. But players that are in their own world all the time, like Weckl, tend not stay on top who's doing what. I told Dave that I liked Shawn Pelton 2 years ago, and he said the same thing. I was like "Ummm, you know Dave, he's on more discs at the moment than Benard Purdie.
More importantly though, Vinnie knows who Hass is.
I couldn't stay away, I was there last night again. It was well worth it. The band didn't play perfectly, the arrangements were much harder than the previous night with Miller, and Jimmy Haslip was making a million mistakes. They were laughing again. I love seeing that. Dave Liebman is amazing.
Hass played great. Ralph Humphrey was at the front table gleeming because a 19 year old Hass was his student in 1990.
Y'all missed a great show.

Dave comes from East Coast, I'm sure he's aware, by some friends/musicians about all the "new" cats" lie Hass, Pelton...

But I see that like in France, it's like a kind of "game" to do like if you never heard about some new cats who are kicking even if you heard about them...
In my opinion it means something like : "I will consider this "new" drummer when he will come to present to me his respect...." you know...

Yeah Vinnie knows everybody, but everybody wants to know him so...

Actually Dave doesn't play that "game". I've known Dave pretty intimatly for some 15 years now.....he's not into that whole "mind trip/game playing stuff". He pretty much says what he means, sometimes not as diplomatically as others.

I know he doesn't get out that much to check out new drummers anymore, so I thought this would have been a good chance for him to see Hass as I too think he's a phenomial player.

I'm really pissed that I didn't have the time to see Hass. I hope he comes back into town soon. We've been soooooo buried at work. We've got 3 mechanics going full time plus me, so I haven't even had much time to participate on the board. And of course, no time for playing either. But what the heck. This is how I support the musical community. I fix their cars and pay to see them play as often as I can. What really bothers me, as a lot of things do, is how "Jazz" and it's evolutionary couterparts aren't as popular a music style as it used to be many years ago. A crying shame if you ask me.

I'm sure Dave's VERY busy with floating his band in between the side gigs [one such as Chick], clinics, & endorsements to support his family, to be concerned about everyone who comes up in & around the field.

But he might eventually become aware...most everyone does at some point along the way. No biggie either way, but usually two players of this nature will eventually 'hear' of each other. But that's not nearly as important an issue as, that each of these artists simply continue to work AKA play.

This is how I support the musical community. I fix their cars and pay to see them play as often as I can. What really bothers me, as a lot of things do, is how "Jazz" and it's evolutionary couterparts aren't as popular a music style as it used to be many years ago. A crying shame if you ask me

You can blame that one on:

- public [& some private] school music allocations;
I was lucky, back in the day when i was a tad, our PS music teacher used to arrange for us to see the symphony orchestra ONCE a YEAR, which covered classical & orch-symph influences, but alas, no jazz or world/ethnic...

- "music" TV networks [where it's obviously really about the business entity-side of it: $$/ numbers/ movable-volume/ formula, AWA look, attitude, fashion, vain frivolity of sensationalism, superficiality, narcissistic hedonism, overtaken by product promo;

- & much commercial radio [same shift, diff name]...

Now, it's a free country & people should be allowed to make a living in an honest & forthright fashion & all that, but we owe it to our kids to inform & enlighten them in their formative years about music as an art form, AOT music being used as a relatively mindless business marketing tool, & trendy fashion nonsense.

As the old saying goes, the first sign of the decline of any 'advanced' society is the indication of the downfall of the "arts"...&...

Damn........for once I wish I was in LA. To see Liebman with Hass and Haslip? When's THAT going to happen again? Not for many years.

Hass will be on tour with John Scofield in Sept and October and then again in Dec, and much of next year, according to the Scofield site.

I didn't see anything in August with Hass and Scofield at John's site or Steve's site. Just a bunch of Manhattan Transfer gigs in Aug at Steves site that conflict with some gigs at John's site except for the "to be annouced" Aug 6th gig.

It's looks as if Scofield is coming to Monterey in California Aug 16th, 17th, and 18th, but doesn't say who's playing drums.

The info about Sept and Oct with Scofield is on Hass' newspage - http://www.stevehass.net/news.html - and Scofield will be in Monterey in Sept, not Aug. One of the dates is with Bill Stewart.

I'm not sure now. I did see that information either on Hass' site, or John's site. Now I don't remember. Maybe it was a message board.
He will be out with John Scofield for a while though.

I want to get a lesson in at some point, but he's way too busy. Hass puts his live dates up month by month. that's annoying when you need to plan way ahead.
Better yet, just go to his board and ask him. I think I will. That's what its there for.
